In America, over 4 million cases of child abuse are reported annually.
This means child reports are being made every 10 seconds.
The Children’s Advocacy Center not only understands the importance of preventing further harm to your child while proceeding with legal interventions, but also works to ensure just as much energy is attended towards helping your child and family heal from this trauma.
Child Abuse is a National Epidemic
In 2021, approximately 45% of child abuse reports were directly associated with abuse and neglect. Sexual and physical abuse reports made up nearly 23%.
Children’s Advocacy Centers around the nation supported families through 386,191 (87%) of those investigations.
Child Abuse is Our Community’s Problem
In 2021, the Champaign County Children’s Advocacy Center facilitated over 279 interviews. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services receives 222 reports daily, with 86,738 child protective services investigations occurring in 2021 and 70,634 having already occurred as of July 2022.
19,045 sexual abuse victims were identified in 2021 by DCFS, and physical abuse consistently makes up at least 20% of reported cases. Despite these seemingly large numbers, all forms of abuse continue to be grossly underreported.
As part of a community that actively promotes the well-being of every child, your involvement will directly reduce the number of crimes committed against our children.
