So who are we?

Well, we call ourselves the Children’s Advocacy Center, but let’s break this down for you.

We are a place (center) where you come to be supported through the exploration of your experience by a bunch of professionals.  The people who work here work with all of those other people, to make the process easier for you.  This is what it means to be an advocate, someone whose job is to do a lot of work, so you have to do less.

This is the full width Professionals container.

Now who are these

“Professionals”

Doctors

Just like the person you see for a check up or when you’re sick, a doctor is someone who will talk to you about your experience, and will look into how, or if, your body shows proof of your experience.

Counselors

Counselors, which are sometimes called therapists, are like doctors,  but for your mind. You may talk to a counselor about how your experience made you feel, or maybe how it makes you feel now.

Social Workers

Social Workers are like cops and counselors smooshed into one person. Their job is to look into what happened, but also to figure out how to make sure you’re safe from now on, and to support you and your family to keep you safe.

Cops

Police persons take the information you’ve given us, as well as information from many other people and places, and decide if a crime occurred.  They then give this information to a Lawyer.

Lawyers

Lawyers take the information gathered by the police, and bring it in front of a judge, who will decide what sort of punishment the person who hurt you deserves.  Punishment, if you don’t know, is like getting in trouble, but in this case, the time out usually happens in jail.

We Provide You

A Safe Space

Now normally during these explorations, often called investigations, you would have to sit with all of these people in separate spaces at different times. Here at the Children’s Advocacy Center, we have spaces made for kids just like you, where all of these ‘professionals’ can come to you. Our space also allows these people a common place to work with you, together.
