You will not be in the room with your child during the interview, which we understand can prompt discomfort and worry.
Trust us; this is done in your and your child’s best interest.
Children have been found to offer the most accurate information when their caregiver is absent. Children in a vulnerable state are more attuned to their caregivers’ emotional responses, leading to the omission of details in their presence to spare them. You may struggle to control your emotions based on what you hear, or your child may feel pressured to tell the story in the way they think you want them to, impacting legal processes.
Rest assured, the interviewer will take the time to make sure your child is comfortable and ensure they know you are available if they need you. Your child will know where you are while they are being interviewed.
